ABOUT SCARLET AND CREAM…

If you haven’t heard a smile, then you haven’t had the pleasure of being entertained by the Scarlet and Cream Singers. This lively group of performers, the University’s unofficial “Ambassadors of Goodwill”, are sponsored by the Nebraska Alumni Association, and have shared their special brand of showmanship, humor, and music with audiences all over the world for more than 35 years.

Averaging between 50 and 60 appearances each school year, the members of the Scarlet and Cream Singers (comprised of 16 vocalists, an instrumental combo and 2 sound and lighting technicians) are all full-time students, with major areas of study ranging from music to education to engineering to advertising. From its humble beginning in 1973, this unique ensemble has performed for heads of state, U.S. presidents, the American Choral Directors National Convention in Salt Lake City, U.S. military personnel in Newfoundland, Greenland, the Mediterranean and Sinai region, and enthusiastic audiences in five Japanese cities. University events, corporate functions, public and private school assemblies, and area arts councils comprise just a small portion of the Scarlet and Cream’s yearly performance schedule.

With innovative vocal stylings, a variety of staging and choreography, and a versatile repertoire including vocal jazz, swing, contemporary hits, romantic ballads, folk melodies, musical theatre, familiar opera choruses and country hits, the Scarlet and Cream Singers deliver something for audiences of all ages.
