Joe Cooper, ’95

Joseph Cooper is the manager of East Coast union hourly compensation for the Walt Disney Theme Park and Resorts. In this role, he provides leadership and direction for development and administration of compensation programs for more than 30,000 Disney cast members. Cooper's career with the Walt Disney World Co. encompasses a wide variety of experiences in food and beverage operations, organization development, human resources, and most recently as manager of union hourly compensation. Prior to joining Disney, Cooper held numerous leadership positions with the University of Nebraska Medical Center and McDonald's while also serving the U.S. Army Reserves, where he was stationed in Southwest Asia during the 1991 Persian Gulf War. Cooper has been recognized by Disney with the prestigious Disney Partners in Excellence award and by the Army with the Army Commendation and Achievement Medals for exceptionally meritorious achievement for his service to the U.S. Army Reserves. Cooper is a graduate of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln with a B.S. in restaurant management and holds a B.S. in business administration from Stetson University in Deland, Fla. Joseph and his wife, Jennifer, live in Clermont, Fla.

Paul Hogan, ’85

Paul, a 1985 graduate of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, began his career with Merry Maids where he was franchise sales manager. He serves as a founding board member of The Home Instead Senior Care Foundation and the National Private Duty Association and a founding member of the Nebraska chapter of the Young Entrepreneur Organization. He also serves on the board of Family First Nebraska. Paul was named “Entrepreneur of the Year” for 2006 by the International Franchise Association.

James Jirsa, ’60

Dr. James O. Jirsa is a professor of civil engineering at the University of Texas where he is actively involved in teaching, research and service. He specializes in the behavior and design of structural reinforced concrete. Jirsa is a noted leader in the structural engineering community, serving as a member of the prestigious National Academy of Engineering and past president of the American Concrete Institute. Jirsa received his B.S. from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 1960 and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois-Chicago in 1963. While a UNL student, he was one of the founding members of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s chapter of Chi Epsilon, the national civil engineering honor society. Jirsa has received numerous awards and honors, has authored more than 85 refereed archival journal articles and has had more than 75 conference proceedings.

Warren Leary

Warren Leary, ’69

Warren Leary is a science correspondent for The New York Times based in Washington, D.C. A science writer for more than 30 years, he is a graduate of the University of Nebraska and received an M.S. degree from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University. Leary began his science writing career with the Associated Press, creating the science beat in the Boston bureau of the news agency from 1971 through 1976, and continuing as a senior science writer for the AP in its Washington bureau from 1976 until 1989, when he joined the staff of The Times. As an award-winning science writer based in Washington, Leary covers space flight, technology, engineering, aeronautics and medical science, as well as policy issues. He is a member and former officer of the National Association of Sciences Writers and serves on the board of the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing.
